19 m³/day Brackish Borehole Water Desalination Project
For this project, Aqua Genesi engineered an integrated treatment and desalination system for brackish borehole water, designed to provide reliable production of high-quality water while making optimum use of the available borehole flow.
The reverse osmosis system was designed for a production capacity of 750–850 litres per hour, corresponding to approximately 19 m³/day. Particular attention was given to optimizing overall system recovery, achieving a design recovery of 64%, while minimizing feed-water demand and concentrate discharge.
The pretreatment configuration was engineered according to the actual characteristics of the borehole water. Due to the exceptionally low turbidity measured in the feed water, a conventional multimedia filtration stage was not required, allowing the treatment process to remain both targeted and efficient.
Feed water passes through sequential 10- and 5-micron cartridge filtration, with an activated carbon stage incorporated between them. Controlled antiscalant dosing protects the reverse osmosis membranes against scaling, supports the required recovery rate and contributes to energy-efficient operation.
The pressure required for the reverse osmosis process is generated by two stainless-steel high-pressure pumps operating in parallel, coupled to high-efficiency three-phase electric motors. The system incorporates three Toray TMH10A 4-inch reverse osmosis membranes, specifically designed for brackish-water applications.
Product-water conductivity is continuously monitored. If water quality falls outside the predefined limits, the product is automatically diverted to drain. If the condition persists, the system stops automatically and generates an alarm, ensuring that off-specification water cannot be transferred to the storage tanks.
Following reverse osmosis, the product water undergoes pH adjustment and remineralization through dolomite filtration, reducing corrosiveness while naturally enriching the water with calcium and magnesium. The design pH of the final product water is 7.8.
The installation also provides automated management of multiple storage tanks, controlled blending of treated and untreated water where required, and dosing of a liquid disinfectant for preventive sanitation of the storage and distribution network.
Operation is fully automated through a Siemens industrial programmable logic controller and a 4.3-inch Delta touch-screen interface. The operator can monitor conductivity, pressure, tank levels, operating hours and alarm history, while also having access to full system configuration. Network infrastructure with VPN (Virtual Private Network) connectivity supports remote supervision and technical support.
The result is an integrated, energy-efficient brackish borehole water desalination solution engineered around the actual characteristics of the water source and the specific operational requirements of the installation.
The project reflects Aqua Genesi's engineering approach: feed-water management, pretreatment, reverse osmosis, remineralization, water-quality control and automation are designed as one coordinated system, with emphasis on water quality, high recovery, operational safety and long-term reliability.
